In its first year and thriving, the National Spanish Honor Society (NSHS), has one mission to follow: promote and spread multiculturalism and enhance the Hispanic culture while serving the community. With almost 100 members, the job has been well served.

“This has been a great year for NSHS, and as it comes to a close our main goal is to keep the members equally involved. Thus far, they have been great and they continue to participate; it’s because of the members that we’ve been able to keep the organization afloat.I can’t wait to see the rest of the year progress and I hope they have a great time at the banquet we’re planning,” junior President Maria Estrada said.

The prestigious club has hosted and participated in various events and drives year-round including Gables’ very own Hispanic Heritage Show, which was coordinated with the help of NSHS, even featuring a performance by the officers themselves. In addition, members participated in the Alzheimer’s Walk, the Book Fair, the walk for the Humane Society, collected books for the Coral Gables Society and toys for the Miami Children’s Hospital, among others. Most importantly stands the Ronald McDonald House that provides housing for families to stay close to their hospitalized child and provide love and support to them. Started by one of our very own officers, it is now a recurring event that NSHS members attend on Fridays or Saturdays to host dinner for the families or do arts and crafts with the patients.

As their sponsor, I hope our members continue actively participating in every NSHS event available to help the community
