The football season unfortunately came to a close on Nov. 30 2015, but we had one of our amazing football players tell us about the team’s experience. Interviewing junior Eduardo Valdes, a wide receiver on the varsity football team, was a great opportunity to gain insight into the team’s thoughts on their season.

Valdes started off as Junior Varsity player and then, with hard work and dedication, was moved up to Varsity. In Valdes’ opinion, his best game and best play were against Southwest in early November, where says he performed an amazing block and demonstrated great technique and skill. When asked about his overall experience with his team this season, Valdes said, “It was an awesome experience. We have great teammates [and] good coaches, and our coaches have a wide range of knowledge on the sport.”  Valdes also shared that his teammates “are good people and hard workers.”

Some say the team’s most successful game was their district game against Christopher Columbus Senior High on Oct. 30, 2015. Beginning in the summer, the team put in lots of effort and focused on playing well and getting to states. The coaches watched film during their weekends so they could figure out the game plan and win as many games as possible. Valdes believes that the team can improve for next year, if they “become more of a team, and bond more all together.”

Valdes has many good things ahead of him, and says he is “excited for what the future will bring.”  If given opportunity to pursue football as a career, Valdes said he would absolutely love to. He is interested in three different universities: Rutgers University, University of Washington and the University of Mississippi, primarily because of their football programs.

Valdes said that his setbacks this season were bad practices and a few down weeks, but that he just had to recover from them and do better the next day.  He has been playing football since his freshman year and has been interested in the sport since he was in elementary school.  Valdes is looking forward to next year, where his teammates that will be upperclassmen can do good for the team, and hopefully make some big wins. “We have a lot of great expectations for our team next season and we know that with hard work and dedication they can accomplish everything they desire.”
