Aiming to capitalize trucks’ popularity and enhance engines, Elio Motors Inc. announced it’s $6,800 “auto-cycle” that could be produced soon.  On Monday, Jan. 12, 2016, the Founder and CEO Paul Elio said the vehicle would be built as car but classified as a motorcycle.

The three-wheel vehicle will have the usual features such as three airbags and seat belts. In fact, Elio Motors has been exempt from helmet laws in 48 out of 50 states and a motorcycle license won’t be required. In addition, it will have its own three-cylinder engine made by the company and is expected to drive 84 miles per gallon on the highway. Also, Elio announced that the company is working on a modular audio system replacing a locked-in audio component.

“When I found out about this invention, it was like I saw cars in a whole other way. Elio Motors seems to be making the impossible happen,” freshman Pablo Hanono said.

Intrigued by all these innovative features, there have been 48,000 reservations.  Many are awaiting the release of this car at the company’s store called Tesla Motors. The company has been taking investments since November and expects to close its fund by Feb. 1., two months before the announced cut-off. The funding will go toward additional engineering on the final production car with a set date for the final production.

“As an admirer of cars, this three-wheeled vehicle seems to just what Elio Motors was missing,” freshman Lucas Piniero said.

Using technology to craft a three-wheel vehicle, Eli Motors has impacted car lovers around the globe.  Elio has successfully passed regulations regarding the engine and is currently working with the federal government to create a new category for these type of vehicles and call them ‘autocycles’. The company is attempting to integrate new ideas and are excited to soon become a public company.
