Saturday April 25, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal 50 miles away from Kathmandu, its capital and largest city. In neighboring towns in India and China, there have been dozens of reported deaths. According to Nepal Authorities, the death toll, as of April 27, has reached 3,617 and is expected to rise. The National Emergency Operation Centre estimates that more than 6,500 people have been injured. The earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest that hit more than 200 climbers; 18 are suspected dead. Tent cities and overflowing hospitals blanket Nepal. Help is being sent but not fast enough. The country is experiencing frequent power outages and is running out of food and water.
