IB Chemistry Students Work to Neutralize Tablets with Hydrochloric Acid

  • Ms. Keily’s period four and six class worked on a titration lab to model Structure 1 of their International Baccalaureate chemistry class.

  • Working together in groups of up to five people, students worked to neutralize an antacid tablet with hydrochloric acid.

  • Crushing up two different antacid tablets, the powder was then mixed with hydrochloric acid in separate beakers.

  • Junior Andres Betancourt slowly pours approximately 25 millimeters of hydrochloric acid into a beaker.

  • Referring back to their worksheet, junior Tiffany Beh and sophomore Alexander Ridoux work together to complete their experiment.

  • Upon boiling the the hydrochloric acid and tablet mixture, junior Anthony Marrero carefully lets three drops of phenolpthalein, a pH color indicator, flow into the mixture.
