The Coral Gables Track and Field team took on a meet against the Varela Vipers at Felix Varela High School. Nearly half of the athletes achieved new personal records, beating their times and advancing their rankings. Our annual CAF and DM Field day event took place where all the publications competed for the trophy. The event took place at the two concluding periods of the day where all five publications (CavsTV, CavsConnect, the Cavaleon, Highlights, and Catharsis) competed in team games that all accumulated points that crowned the winner. After intense competition, CavsTV won the trophy while the Cavaleon won the spirit award for their outstanding display of team spirit. Thank you to all members and advisors of each publication for their help and participation in this event.
Our annual Senior Picnic event took place after two years of being cancelled due to covid. The seniors begun their day by meeting in the auditorium to watch a movie followed by a breakfast organized by Ms. Camacho and Ms. Dalenbert with our culinary arts academy. Our Cavaliers then made their way to the field where different teams competed for the wacky olympics and tug-of-war. This years winner for the wacky olympics were the Gables All-Stars while the Goal Diggers took the trophy in the tug-of-war tournament. Thank you to all those who help organize this amazing and memory filled event.
Students from the Class of 2023 are officially upperclassman! A ceremony was held for the juniors who purchased their class rings. As the celebrated with their family members and friends, they received roses and got their pictures taken at the ring photobooth. Class representatives spoke on the accomplishments these students have been through as they approach their senior year.
Our annual Mr. Coral Gables pageant is back and better than ever. Cavaliers get the opportunity to compete to see who is the years Mr. Coral Gables. The competition includes participating in an interview, a swimwear runway, and showing off a talent to a panel of judges. Meet some of this years Mr. Coral Gables contestants and see the talents they presented. Congratulations to Romulo Delgado, Mr. Basketball, for being awarded this years Mr. Coral Gables.
Gables Choir director, Krystal Espada puts on a Holiday show for the students of the Adult Education night classes. The were special guest performers invited to participate in the event, including our Gablettes, Bhangra, the Gables Choir, and other special guests. Staff members were awarded their hard work and dedication, presented by the Principal of the Night school.
A week prior to December 9, 8th period classes entered in an alma mater competition to win a spot at the pep rally. Students and teachers had to recite the alma mater by memory, and judges picked the best sounding, most enthusiastic classes. The classes chosen wore white and red and were able to attend at the end of the day. Intense games of red light, green light and the cup game riled up the crowd to show some spirit. We even got to see a tug-of-war between the Mr. Coral Gables contestants. Our very own Cav Man, Gablettes dance team, and cheerleaders made special appearances.
For the month of December, teachers decorated their doors to showcase their artistic abilities and holiday spirit. With winners ranging from snow globes, to gingerbread houses, to Cuban-inspired cardboard decorations; the hallways were adorned with holiday items and Gables pride. Congratulations to the winners: Ms. Leal-Garcia in first place, Ms. Monzon in second, and Ms. Gonzalez in third!
The Gablettes are back with their 46th annual Fall Frolics. Friends and family joined together to watch an incredible show by Gables’ very own National Champions. Hip-hop, lyrical, jazz, and contemporary performances illuminated the stage of our auditorium. The Gablette seniors were celebrated as they received their senior jackets, given to them by their sweethearts. We got to hear a few words from the team’s officers, and dance teacher Ms. Diaz made an appearance to end off the night.
On November 9, Cavaliers wore red and three red spirit items in order to attend the Fall Sports Pep Rally. Seniors Lawrence Stampino-Strain and Romulo Delgado presented the fall sports teams and riled up the crown with some Gables spirit. Team captains played an intense game of musical chairs, the Gablettes performed, and the Cavman made a special appearance. After several tries from students, Mr. Nelson got dunked into the dunk tank to end off an amazing pep rally.
