Homecoming this year is on the brink of arriving, and in anticipation, Coral Gables has already released information and set the stage for the grand finale of the beginning of the year events. To secure themselves tickets, students had to have reserved eligibility to purchase the tickets by first completing the interest form, found on the students’ class Instagram. When the tickets released on Sept. 18 on OSP for $55, students purchased their ticket to the event and guaranteed their spot.
With this year’s theme being “Mid Summer’s Night Dream,” students prepare for the event which will be held off campus for the first time since the pandemic. In line with the two previous years’ themes “Under the Stars” in 2023 and “Disturbia” in 2022, this year’s theme promises to be just as fitting for a night event as the previous two. Students can plan to enjoy the night under the luscious greenery and starry night sky.
“To be honest, I love this year’s theme and the previous ones, but I do think this year is going to be better because it’s indoor so I think they’ll be able to bring the theme to life better. Last year, I planned my outfit around the theme and plan to do the same this year, as it is such a good theme to dress up for,” senior Brianna Bustamante said.
“We did get a sneak peek at the decorations, and I’m expecting a gorgeous night with a nature and forest theme… But it’s important to note as seniors [that] the teachers like to surprise us with the venue’s setup so this is simply my guess,” senior Tiffany Beh said.
Setting this homecoming apart from previous ones, it will be held on the University of Miami campus rather than the Coral Gables Senior High campus, which marks the first off-campus homecoming since the 2020 pandemic. This change will add a new element of anticipation to the event, as students can look forward to a homecoming that no graduating class has experienced yet.
“I think it’ll definitely be fun no matter where it’s held, but I feel like it’ll be a cool experience for the seniors to be exposed to a different environment from the previous homecomings,” senior Evan Noval said.
“I definitely prefer it at UM because the campus is really pretty, and I heard it will be held indoors, whereas in the last homecomings, it was held on Gables’ campus but outdoors. I’m glad that it’s finally going back to how it used to be, especially for this senior year, my last year here. I’m also excited to see how it will be decorated as well,” senior Zophie Aparicio said.
Just as in every year, the student council of the senior class was tasked with coordinating and planning the event, while staff members Ms. Camacho and Ms D’Alemberte also took on a bulk of the planning. Seniors on the council put hours into making sure the process of purchasing tickets and reserving eligibility ran smoothly. Meanwhile, Ms. Camacho and Ms. D’Alemberte concerned themselves with coordinating event decorations and layout, as well as arranging amenities
“Since day one of school, the whole student council already started planning, from making the interest forms, posting updates, and making posts for Instagram and [Microsoft] Teams. After all this preparation, I’m so excited to see all our work and planning come to life and enjoy my senior year homecoming with my favorite people,” senior Tiffany Beh said.
“We picked the day of the event and the themes for spirit week. After that, once the school year started, we sent out an interest form. In order to pay for homecoming, you needed to fill out the interest form. Once we closed the form, we checked the eligibility of all the students that filled out the form. After that was done, we sent out a list on teams. This list consisted of all the kids that would be able to pay for homecoming,” senior Melissa Hernandez said.
As excitement builds for homecoming through pep rallies and other events, school spirit around the campus is on the rise. After thorough preparation from the class of 2025 student council and staff members, the stage is set for a successful homecoming which promises to live up to expectations. Students across Gables who want to attend the event have already secured their ticket and guaranteed their spot, which leaves the only preparations left picking out an outfit and counting down the days.
