Amidst the different restaurants and stores found on Miracle Mile, only one stands out for its delicious international treats: Scandy Candy. On Aug. 9 “Scandy Candy” opened its first in-person store in Coral Gables looking to share the joy of Scandinavian candy with Miami. This viral candy spot has become a staple to those looking for a taste of Scandinavia’s internet-famous sweet treats made from authentic flavors and ingredients.
Before Scandy Candy became a dedicated candy store, it was originally an online company, founded by Swedish brothers Callie and Willie Olsen. After the brothers moved to the United States, they began to miss the taste of their hometown treats. Eventually, they chose to share their love of Swedish candy to the world, allowing everyone to order online and enjoy the sweet taste of their childhood. After months of successful sales, the brothers triumphantly opened their first ever in-person store in August of 2025. News spread quick around Miami and a total of around 300 customers made their way to the shop for its opening day celebration.
“When I tried Swedish candy for the first time I thought it was really good, my sister told me to try it in when we were in New York and it was addicting. I think they need to open more in Miami for sure; the Swedish candy is way less overpowering than American candies so I think people here would like it more,” sophomore Georgia Black said.
The success of the shop ultimately stems from social media, primarily TikTok. Influencers started to do their own reviews on the niche style of Swedish candy, prompting viewers to want to try the candy for themselves and of course, they loved it. However, this boom in popularity put the company on hold. Though the shop expected lots of attention when initially opening their new store, workers at Scandy Candy did not expect the stock of candy to run out only a week after opening. As a result, the store closed from Aug. 18 to Aug. 30, where they reopened to a large crowd awaiting the fresh supply of sweets.
“They should have more candy stores in every state, the flavors are way less artificial than any other candies and it really changes your point of view,” sophomore Black said.
This style of Scandinavian candy did not just get popular for its distinct background, its unique and authentic flavor paired with its real ingredients made it an instant sell-out. Shoppers adore how the store not only allows them to chose between sour or sweet, but also different textures and shapes, adding a uniqueness to the candy. Another plus of the candy is its ingredient quality. The company prides itself in serving candy with real sugar and colors and instead of using corn starch and artificial flavorings like most American brands, they use glucose syrup, starch and all natural flavors, giving the establishment an improved quality and flavor.
Not only is the store perfect when it comes to their 200 styles of candy, but the store’s interior and exterior perfectly fits into Miracle Mile’s aesthetic. The pink and blue color of the building along with its floral array adds to the sweet and joyful vibe of the street. The dainty display of confectionery’s and small check out desk gives the shop a small business vibe.
“I’ve never heard of Swedish candy before, I had only really eaten Swedish Fish, which I know isn’t really Swedish. But I was walking around Miracle Mile and saw the shop and thought it was super cute, so I definitely have to try it as soon as I can,” sophomore Loren Teran said.
In addition to fitting into Miracle Mile aesthetically, the candy store fits into the chain of stores that already exist. The Mile already gives shoppers many different options including restaurants, shops, book stores and even a museum. But there are not too many places to get a quick sweet treat. Scandy Candy provides customers with a quick to-go service, allowing them to walk in and out in seconds, which is a plus for customers who want a quick dessert to go.
It is safe to say that Scandy Candy has already left a huge impression on the Gables. From going viral on TikTok due to food reviewers, to selling out in their first week at their brand new store, it is obvious the shop is here to stay. With 200 different kinds of Swedish delights, how could anyone with a sweet tooth resist walking in and grabbing a bite?
