President Donald Trump spent little time making his plans a reality. During his presidential campaign, Trump proposed to ban Muslim migrants from entering the United States. This plan does not allow all persons from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia or Yemen to enter the United States. Therefore, his ban can be considered to target Muslims.

Not yet enacted, the order brings new measures in attempt to keep away possible terrorists from entering the country. The plan outlines that after 120 days the US will prioritize admissions of refugees who are fleeing religious persecution only if the religion of the individual is a minority religion in their country of nationality. Also, the draft order would suspend the U.S. Visa waiver programs, not allowing refugees to migrate to the U.S.

The Muslim ban is by far one of the worst policies that Trump could ever enforce. The state should never be allowed to strip away universal human rights from anyone, especially based on their faith. Our country was based on the foundation of freedom of religion. I feel like I’m living in the 17th century where differing religions were scorned upon and it could even mean death. As stated in the National Anthem, we are “the Land of the Free”; I simply don’t see Trump executing the Muslim Ban as a sign of freedom; we are no longer the Land of the Free. I am currently nauseated to be an American. I am not afraid of Muslims.

Trump’s plan has sparked rage among many American citizens and people from all over the world. Airports have become Ground Zero for protests of the many enraged citizens. Many gathered waving colorful, handmade signs in unity in objection of the executive order. Those who were detained before the halt of the executive order had either been released into the United States or put onto a plane destined for outside the country.

Airports like John F. Kennedy International Airport were filled with protesters who were mostly accommodated by airport officials. Many temporarily closed security checkpoints and diverted traffic in order to make room for protesters. In San Francisco International Airport international terminals were closed and passengers were sent to another boarding area to make room for protesters. Other airports made accommodations like these unlike President Trump.

“I’m appalled by the Muslim ban because it is unjust to prohibit people, especially refugees in need, from entering a country because of their religion.  This is a nation where we have freedom of religion. Banning people because of their religion goes against the values and morals of the United States. It is a disgrace to this nation and its dignity,” junior Yara Faour said.

This executive order has astonished people worldwide. Now, all Muslims and Americans are waiting to see what the future holds for their life in the United States.
