As of Aug. 26 Tropical Storm Erika is currently 120 miles east of Lesser Antilles, which is less than 1,500 miles from South Florida. In order to reach Florida it needs to survive through the Eastern Caribbean which is easier said than done. Its predecessor of a few days, Tropical Storm Danny, dissipated over this area Aug. 24. If Erika sustains there is a high chance, although still uncertain, of it thriving and turing into a category one hurricane which is expected to hit South Florida on Monday thanks to the southward drop in the jet stream. An important upside to Tropical Storm Erika is that it is expected to pass over drought-stricken Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Read more on this topic at weather.com.
