UM Paid Summer Internship
Applications for the 2023 JJ Vance Memorial Summer Internship in Biological and Computational Sciences are currently open. https://med.miami.edu/centers-and-institutes/hihg/education-and-training/division-of-genomic-education/educational-programs/jj-vance-memorial-summer-internship/application-requirements Those selected for this paid internship, a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Summer Research Experience Program, work 8 hours per day for 8 weeks to complete a final research project, which they present to our faculty members, research scientists, and staff, as well as invited guests (including parents, friends and teachers). This paid summer internship is awarded to juniors in high school (rising seniors) who attend and are in good standing with schools in South Florida. The recipients of the internship participate in a challenging, eight-week research course at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The interns gain hands-on research experience assisting mentors with ongoing projects on topics such as the genetics of Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, autism, hearing loss, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, while learning how to formulate ideas for research, conduct research, and accomplish specific aims. Finalists selected for virtual/in-person interviews must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States at the time of their interviews.
