Crazy About Clubs!

For many, the beginning of the school year is a time of much anticipation. With club fair having recently occurred, what club to join is a question ever present in a student’s mind. This list will allow you the opportunity to narrow down your choices and choose the perfect one (or two)!

Interact – Yanik Ariste

Interact! Interact! Interact! Interact is a service club that puts on breast cancer week, awareness project, and many outside activities like 5k runs for Alzheimer’s. They are also responsible for Valentine’s proposals.

Best Buddies – Thomas Harley

Best Buddies is a service club that pairs club members with special needs students to form friendships. If you are interested in forming a life-long friendship, join this club!

Art Club – Andrea Munos

Art Club is a safe space where artists of any level can come together to create art and build off each other’s talent.

If you are interested in your doodles beautifying the margins of your notebook, this is the club for you.

National Honor Society – Marissa Singer / Marta D’Ocon / Yara Faour

National Honor Society is a club that requires a 3.0 GPA and offers multiple community service opportunities to all its members. This club does require you to actively take part in service, which may not be for everyone, but it all pays off when you are wearing that golden rope during graduation.

Gables Earth – Ximena Puig

Gables Earth is the school’s environmentally conscious organization. If you enjoy reducing, reusing and recycling, this is your perfect fit.

National Spanish Honor Society – Yvanna Cajina

Proud of your Hispanic heritage or want to know more about the Spanish Culture? Join NSHS! This club offers community service opportunities and the chance to show off your Spanish flare.

Debate Club – Cristian Ochoa

If you are the kind of person who hears a controversial topic being conversed and feels the need to jump in and speak your mind, join Debate! This club will give you the opportunity to increase your public speaking skills and further develop arguments.

Future Business Leaders of America – Ewan Hennessy / Maria Estrada

“A business-driven club where students can launch and advance their professional experiences. FBLA challenges students to think critically, tackle current issues and collaborate with fellow members. From computer programming to public speaking, we’ve got a spot for you,” senior Ewan Hennessy said.

HIP – Leslie Sarria

These are the people who come to your class your freshman year and talk to you about topics you may not be exposed to otherwise. A club meant for upperclassmen, it gives you the opportunity to help assimilate our school’s freshmen.

Gables Bhangra – Melanie Wu / Isabella D’Ottone

If dancing or Indian culture interest you, join Gables Bhangra! In this club, you will have the opportunity to perform at pep rallies and school assemblies.

NEHS – Francis Moreira

If reading is your passion, NEHS will become your favorite club! Members all share a passion for literature, both prose and poetry, and in their monthly poetry slams, you can perform and earn the prize of a full watermelon!

Model United Nations – Cristian Ochoa

Model United Nations is a club that will test your public speaking and people skills and may even reward you with a gavel! Members compete in multiple competitions with a large range of topics and meet to improve their performance in both general assembly and crisis. They will also have the opportunity to take field trips including Gator MUN to the University of Florida.

Quill & Scroll – Leila Iskandarani

Quill & Scroll is an honor society that recognizes the work of all the publications on the Gables campus – Highlights, CavsConnect, Catharsis, TV Production and the Cavaleon. This club aims to promote publications and the work that they do to cover school and international news.

Gables Paradigm – Natalie Brenes

“Our mission as a club this year is to establish a strong presence for our LGBT+ students and allies to let them know that there is a safe, supportive place for them at Gables and that, no matter what, they can be involved with their community,” junior Natalie Brenes said.

SECME – Gayathri Samuel

With the acronym standing for science, engineering, communication, mathematics and enrichment, this club is perfect for those who have a passion for STEM. Club members compete in science competitions including, but not limited to, building bottle rockets and bridges.

MAO – Camilo Catasus

Mu Alpha Theta is our school’s honor society in the area of mathematics. These passionate math students assist with math tutoring three times a week and compete routinely against other Mu Alpha Theta chapters around the district. If you can recall the quadratic formula, consider this club!

IBHS – Yanik Ariste

The International Baccalaureate Honor Society is open to all IB and pre-IB students who have a passion for community service. This club holds Adopt-A-Freshman (AAF) meetings after every general meeting where underclassmen can ask questions to those in the grades above them. IBHS is also responsible for hosting the school’s annual fundraiser, Bridge for Peace.

Creative Writing – Serena Correia

Creative Writing club is exactly what it sounds like. Ms. Zaldivar is the sponsor and these club members get together to share and improve their work.

Gables Players – Sarah McClusky

Gables Players is a club for all who enjoy being on a stage. Made up of many extroverted people, the Gables Players put on performances and improve their drama skills through many interactive activities.

Key Club – Sophie Sepehri

Key Club is a sect of the Kiwanis Organization that promotes service in the community through drives and interactive events. If you are interested in actively assisting your community or gaining service hours, join this club!

National Science Honor Society – Grace Sedaghatpisheh

National Science Honor Society is an extension of scientific knowledge through lively experiments that would not be done in a conventional classroom setting.

French Honor Society – Natalia Rodriguez

One of our school’s newest clubs, the French honor society helps promote French language and culture through community service opportunities. Members can also better their French language skills through tutoring and on-campus cultural days.

Our high school is filled with many clubs that offer ample opportunities to all their respective members. Be sure to check out what these clubs have to offer and get into contact with their presidents if necessary. Join any club that is of interest to you, even if it is just one!
