September 28, 2014

On Sept. 27, about 200 students danced under the lights at Homecoming 2014! Everyone elegantly gathered around at 8 p.m. in The Student Activities Center at UM, which grandiosely overlooked a large lake. After long days of planning this anticipated event, Student Council and Student Activities members finally put together the final touches to emphasize this year's theme. The idea was to bring back the true meaning of a traditional homecoming: football and Gables spirit. Football helmets, cheerleader uniforms and yearbooks from way back were used either as centerpieces or stand up decorations, making the night seem endlessly spirited. They exemplified what a traditio...

On Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Tropical Park at 3:30 p.m., the Cavaliers played against the Coral Reef Barracudas. With a score of 28-0, it is obvious that it was a great game - for the Cavaliers.   "I just really want to thank my offensive line, my defense and linemen in the back;they helped me get a touchdown, and I love all the support we've gotten this game and the previous games - it's amazing,"  senior running back Hans Supre {#22} said.   In the first and second quarters of the game, there weren't many big plays; both the Reef defense and the Gables defense worked at each other, leaving the score to stay at 0-0. Right at the end of the second quarter, Amir Rassule {#34} made a Touchdown, causing the quarter to end with a score of 7-0.   "We started slow, we finished strong. We need to start faster next time.We have a district opponent next Wednesday so we need our Cavalier Nation to come out and suppo...

On Friday, September 12, 2014, the Cavaliers put in a great effort against our rivals, the Columbus Explorers. The stands were packed - the Cavalier Nation was out in full force, with pom-poms left behind! This was the third and most important game of the season, and took place at Tropical park at 7:30 p.m. With an extremely close final score of 13-14, it is clear that the Cavaliers have some work to do.   "It was a far fought game on both sides. As the lights in the auditorium went black, anticipation grew throughout the crowd. Although it only lasted approximately 45 minutes, the pep rally demonstrated the students' excitement and pride for their football team, all in preparation for the Columbus versus Gables game at 7:30 p.m. at Tropical Park. The pep rally kicked off with the introduction of Power 96 by coanchors Alejandro Arzola and Holden Payne as the official DJs of the event. Similar to prior pep rallies, this one included performances by Color Guard, Cheerleaders, Band, Sisters With Attitude and Gablettes, all which highlighted the numerous talents at Gables. To reassure the attendees that Gables was destined to win the Columbus game, Principal Costa gave an inspiring speech about Cavalier pride. With the help of TV Production's Javier Cobas, a new video was showcased. The video footage documented past games versus Columbus, which ended both disappointedly and ecstatically.
