On Feb. 14, Barcelona went to Paris to face Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the first leg of the round 16 of the Champions. They came back home having lost 4-0 and having to do a lot of work to stay in the tournament. With a little less then a month to prepare, Barça showed that they were ready. They stayed in the tournament by defeating PSG 6-1 in what was arguably the greatest comeback of all time.

In the first half, Barça dominated a sloppy PSG defense that was not able to stop them. Luis Suarez got an early goal in the 3rd minute with a brilliant header. The PSG defense looked asleep in a goal that should have been stopped. With a score of 1-0, Barça needed three more goals to just make it to overtime, and right before half-time the second goal came. The PSG defense showed that they did not have a comeback and remained scoreless. The first half ended with a score of 2-0 with Barça one step closer to completing their comeback.

In the second half, Barça showed that they were ready to win. In just the 50th minute, they got a penalty and Messi put it in the back of the net making it 3-0. Another mistake from the French team was about to cost them the tournament. However, PSG caught a break when Cavani scored a brilliant goal around the 60th minute. The 3-1 score meant that there was no chance for overtime and Barça had less than 30 minutes to score 3 goals to win. The first of those goals came late in the 88th minute. Neymar drilled the ball into the back of the net on a set piece on the edge of the box. He followed this up with a penalty goal in the 91st minute that made the score 5-1 with 4 minutes left. Then, in the 95th minute, the miracle happened; Sergi Roberto was able to volley a cross in and make the score 6-1.

“I think that after this comeback Barça is capable of anything. I think that they’ll end up winning the Championship,” sophomore Bryan Areas said.

Barça, with a score of 6-1 over PSG, advances onto the quarterfinals of the Champions league. If they want to win the title they have to keep working hard. They need to prevent slip ups like that 4-0 against PSG or they will be eliminated from the tournament. Their next Champions league match will be against Juventus and they will have to defeat the Italians if they wish to make it into the semifinals.
