Over the spring break holiday, your Varsity Baseball team won the first ever HSBN Spring Break Shootout.  The tournament consisted of 16 of the top teams in the Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties.  After early season struggles, the Cavs entered the tournament as the number 14 seed and had to open up with powerhouse Flanagan Falcons.  The Cavs defeated the Falcons 5-2 behind a great pitching effort of Bryan Melendez and Jose Padron.  The Cavs then defeated Belen Jesuit by a final score of 11-2 in the quarter final game.  Tyler Santana threw 6 innings and allowed 1 hit and Elih Marrero had a big day at the plate going 4-4. In the semifinal game, the Cavaliers took on the Westminster Academy Lions and held on to a 4-1 victory advancing them to the championship game. Ryan Maya pitched a gem and Jose Padron came in to finish it off.  In the championship, Andrew Cabezas pitched a complete game allowing 4 hits as the Cavaliers defeated the Mater Academy Lions by a final of 3-0.  Jesus Pineda launched a triple and was the first run of the game and Elijah Eusebio hit a big homerun to left center field.  It was a great tournament for the team as they get ready for the final stretch of the season.
