Senior captain Francis Perez getting prepared for the season

Kelsy Pacheco, Sports Editor

Returning for yet another smashing year, the badminton team has gotten a head start this season. Ever since last year, the team has been holding open gyms on Saturdays so that returners can start practicing, and newbies can get to know the game.

This year, there are some changes happening, especially with the coaches. Last year, the team had Ms. Fraga as their coach, but since she has become the head coach for swimming and water polo, she could not coach them this year. Now, the team is glad to have one of its returning players, alumnus Kevin Lopez, coaching the team for the season. Lopez played badminton from his sophomore to senior year and still continues to play on his own.

This year, with the new coach and new additions, the team has high hopes for the new season; practices have already started up every day after school. Some days, the team works on conditioning, while other days they work on improving their skills and practicing for their next game. Make sure to come out and support the team at their first game of the season against Miami Springs and Ronald Regan at Ronald Regan on Feb. 10.
