Spotify and Pandora, music streaming programs, both offer great services to individuals nationwide. Although both have proven to be specially popular among teenagers, many people are unsure which one is better. The following provides an overview in the history and services of each.

Spotify:

  • Launched in October 2008
  • Music can be browsed or searched by artist, album, genre, playlist, or record label
  • Paid “Premium” subscriptions remove advertisements and allow users to download music to listen offline
  • Available on smart phones, including iPhones, Androids, etc.
  • Create personalized playlists
  • Play personalized playlists on shuffle mode, unless “Premium” subscriber
  • Rewind or repeat is not permitted, unless “Premium” subscriber

“Spotify is much better than Pandora because I can play my personalized playlists, rather than listen to a station with varying artists,” senior Brooke Donner said.

Pandora:

  • Launched January 2000
  • A station is set by specifying an artist or song, or a combination of multiple items of any kind in a single station
  • Rewind or repeat is not permitted
  • Paid Pandora subscribers remove advertisements and allow infinite skips.
  • Available on smart phones, including iPhones, Androids, etc.
  • Allows 6 skips per hour, for up to 24 total skips per day.

“Pandora is definitely better than Spotify, because it introduces me to artists similar to the ones that I love,” senior Hanna Payne said.

Based on the information provided, the CavsConnect staff has collectively decided that Spotify is better than Pandora. The main factor that caused us to lean towards Spotify is the possibility to create personalized playlists. After experimenting with each program, we confirmed that Pandora lacked some qualities that Spotify had, such as a home page that suggests artists you may like.
