When you ask one of your friends what the last good book they read was, what do they reply? Answers may vary from The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins to 1984 by George Orwell. Although three of the most common answers are found below.

One of the last good books students are obsessing over is The Fault In Our Stars which is written by the same author of Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns, John Green. The book was published in January 2012 and it’s based on the emotional experience of 16 year old, Hazel Grace Lancaster, who suffers from lung cancer and because of it, she carries an oxygen tank everywhere she goes. In one of the Cancer Support Group meetings she attends, she meets a boy named Augustus Waters who allows her to open up to him. Later on in their relationship, they end up traveling to Amsterdam to find the author of Hazel’s favorite book. Even though it is a romance-filled book, its plot twist ending is one of the saddest of all time. The movie for the book will be in theaters on June 6th 2014.

“I think the book is well-written, heartwarming, and completely brilliant. It’s a sweet, yet sad love story that I might never forget or get tired of,” freshman Maria Passerini said.

Secondly, the next good book on the list is Of Mice and Men by John Steinback that was published in 1937. Of Mice and Men is a short, yet thrilling book about two migrant workers, George Milton and Lennie Small, who end up finding a job at a small ranch. Lennie is not really the brightest bulb on the porch, but he loves to stroke and cuddle with nice soft things, like puppies and mice. But what happens when you touch the soft things too much? That question is answered in this plot twisting book. There is also a film that was first made in 1939, but remade into a more modern version in 1992.

“I promise you, when I read the ending, I was extremely shocked. My jaw just completely dropped. It’s just… wow,” junior Yoan Gonzalez said.

Last but not the least, Th1rteen R3asons Why (yes, it is stylized like that), was written by Jay Asher and published in 2007. The story revolves around a boy named Clay Jensen and Hanna Baker, a thirteen year old girl who committed suicide. Hanna, before she overdosed on medicine, recorded herself and sent out 7 cassette tapes with a list of 13 people’s names. Those 13 people on the list received a package from her with all the tapes. Each individual tape is dedicated to certain people, but the individual who receives it must hear them all and pass it on to the next person on the list after them. Clay, who never thought Hanna even noticed him, is on one of the tapes and needs to find out how he influenced Hanna’s death. The movie is still trying to find cast members, but hopefully will soon be in production and in theaters in the upcoming years.

“The book is amazing, and I totally recommended it for anyone who likes books that make them emotional and that has major suspense. I just can’t wait to be able to see the actual film; I’m afraid I’m going to cry so much,” senior Roxana Almendares said.

After reading about other students’ experience with the last book they enjoyed, maybe you can check one out at a local library or buy one yourself. You never know what can happen; it might become your most recent good read. But disregarding these listed above, what was the last good book you’ve read?
