What type of phones do the majority of people own? If that little voice in your head said iPhones, you’re right! Even though they are very popular, people have been having issues with maintaining them, and here are some do’s and don’ts:

Do’s:

1. Buy a phone cover: Although some people prefer their phones without a cover because they believe it looks better, your phone won’t look so beautiful when it’s all scratched up and filled with cracks. This is the top suggestion when buying a brand new Apple iPhone. To be able to make sure your phone lasts, get a LifeProof or an Otter Box. If they are too expensive, plastic covers are better than no cover at all.

“I regret having a flimsy cover; my iPhone 4 has dozens of scratches and I have to save up 120 dollars to be able to repair it,” junior Gabriella Trujillo said.

2. Put it in a safe place:  When doing an activity that involves both of your hands, make sure you put it on a flat surface. Stay away from younger siblings and pets and place it maybe in a bag or a purse.

“I will never forget the time when I went to the park and my phone slipped out of my pocket and broke. I wish I had changed my mind before I decided not to put it in my bag instead,” freshman Aolani Ramos said.

3.Home buttons: Home buttons are optional. These buttons are stickers that can be found in different colors, textures, and designs. They are known for protecting the home button, because there are several cases in which an iPhone has fallen and the home button has stopped working. This could easily be avoided by using a sticker.

“I have dozens and dozens of home button stickers. They have such a variety, and when I first saw them I couldn’t get my eyes off of them. I recommend these even if your button is broken, it makes your phone look pretty cute,” freshman Jenevy Nunez said.

Don’ts:

1.Run out of storage: This situation has happened to a majority of people. This may be a result of downloading too much; choose your songs, apps, and pictures carefully. If you have too many apps, remove the ones that aren’t so important, and if anything, you can always re-download them. In addition, you can even pass these things onto a USB or use apps such as Dropbox where you can access your stuff from any device.

“Running out of storage is one of the most obnoxious things that can ever happen to any type of phone. I regret allowing myself to let that happen. I had to delete 4 GB of information just to be able to take a picture again,” said sophomore Michael Mederos.

2.Over-charging your phone: Over-charging your phone may seem good for your battery, but it is actually the opposite. This may damage your battery by overheating it. One of the minor consequences would be your phone’s battery dying out, which decreases the time your phone lasts.

“I charge my phone a lot, honestly. I’ve lost a lot of charging power and my phone has gotten so weak that in every single class, I lose around 30 percent of battery,” sophomore Valerie Roa said.

3.Leaving your apps open: Close all your apps! By leaving your apps open in the background, the battery drains faster.

“When I first started using iOS in general, I was so confused. I didn’t know a single detail about closing your apps. I didn’t find out about it until my friend told me 2 months after I got my iPhone,”  junior Jason Gomez said.

Once you have followed these simple guidelines, it is guaranteed your Apple phone will “survive” longer than you expected. By doing so, you can save money and time and most importantly avoid having to buy another phone. Always remember to still enjoy your phone with these tips.
