The Future of Virtual Reality

Google Cardboard may be Google’s ticket to revolutionizing Virtual Reality (VR). While VR has been around for a while, it has never been an easily available thing. This headset, a box that simulates virtual reality, can be ordered off of Amazon for just $3.99.

The way Google Cardboard works is as follows: first, you put your phone (without a case) into the headset after starting the free Google Cardboard app, Cardboard.  The lenses on the headset will magnify both images projected on your phone screen; it then uses motion sensors in the phone to change directions, allowing you to explore places through the headset. Moving may be nauseating and the images may not be perfectly clear, but it is a very innovative way of spreading VR technology.

Google Cardboard allows the user to do an array of things like, touring famous cities and museums. Locations can also be submitted to Google with the use of a 360 degree camera. Various Google Cardboard apps are available for download on the Google Play Store.

“In my opinion, I feel that the Google Cardboard will act as the driving force to integrate use of virtual reality tech amongst everyday people in a pretty efficient way. It’s [has] a simple enough design and seems easy enough to use [so] the concept of virtual reality will most likely spread and grow even quicker since its debut,” senior Alejandro Rovira said.

While it may not be the most advanced technology, it is still very impressive; Google Cardboard allows you to explore the world for the fraction of the price.
