On Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards (commonly know as “The Emmys”) took place in the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, California with host Andy Samberg leading the show. The Emmys recognize excellence in the television industry, with over 150 different show and actor nominations this year.

The HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge took home the most awards this year with 6 Emmys. Awards went to Richard Jenkins and Frances McDormand for Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, while Bill Murray won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, although he was not able to obtain it because he went to his son’s wedding instead of the award show. The show itself received the Outstanding Limited Series award and the Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special awards.

“An award show is an award show; there isn’t much difference you can expect. However, I felt like they tried to make this Emmys more comedic. Andy Samberg was a great host and extremely funny too,” sophomore Virgil Alfred said.

Olive Kitteridge isn’t the only HBO show to make a name for itself; Game of Thrones and Veep both received four awards. Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage got Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and the show itself received Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Veep won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Tony Hale took home the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award, and Veep won Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

With yet another award show having come and gone, everything went mostly as expected. The Emmys do still possess something that draws the public to them, so they must be doing something right.
