Based off of George R. R. Martin’s book series, “A Song of Fire and Ice”, HBO’s tv series Game of Thrones has become a hit award winning show. Game of Thrones follows the lives of the three major houses, House Stark, Targaryen, and Lannister all vying for power of Westeros and to be able to sit a top the Iron Throne.

Jon Snow comes back to life in season 6

Although the show mostly focuses on the life of those a part of the three main houses, it can have many bloody, gory, and graphic scenes and is definitely not for the faint of heart. As the series goes on, the gore and graphic scenes die down since the show begins to focus on the journey of Daenerys Targaryen as she tries to take the Iron Throne for herself. For the first couple of seasons, the show and the book were very close in plot, until around season 3 when the series began to diverge. The show continues to somewhat have things in common with the books but it has changed many of the characters and plots to keep the audience more engaged.

One of the strongest aspects of the show is how much depth and background the characters are given. Throughout the episodes, especially in the first couple of seasons, the audience gets to learn more about where the characters came from and why they are the way they are. As the show progresses, the audience is also able to see the characters develop and how some characters’ stories begin to overlap.

Khaleesi with one of her dragons.

“My favorite character is Daenerys Targaryen of the house Stormborn, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Mother of dragons, Freer of slaves, Leader of the unsullied…she’s my favorite because it really shines a positive light on the ability of women to actually kick butt, especially in a male dominated world like Westerns,” senior Gabriela Vega said.

What many fans are looking forward to now, is the release of season 7. With the new season being pushed back from its usual release date in spring because of filming conflicts due to the weather, fans are excited to see what’s to come as the show reaches its end. Recently, HBO has released their first trailer for the new season which is set to air on July 16, 2017.
