Season two of the well-awaited gothic, grungy Wednesday series premiered Aug 6. Directed by Tim Burton, this new season brings more character growth, mystery and a sense of surprise than its predecessor. Actor Jenna Ortega takes the audience into a season of plot twists and turns with new and changed relationships. While some fans did not enjoy Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair’s relationship that originated in season one, the new season strongly explores how they navigate their differences and support each other through challenges, bringing them even closer. On top of it all, season two expertly brings in new stalkers, serial killers, mysterious characters and dark elements.
In the first season, viewers watched as Wednesday moved to Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts and supernatural beings. There she solved a murder mystery case that no one else could, almost immediately upon arriving at school. She found out about family secrets and made some unexpected friends and allies. Season one was a mix of dark humor, teenage drama and suspense, providing the perfect introduction of the world of Wednesday Addams to fans around the world.
Popularity Ratings of TV Shows compared to Wednesday Addams
“I enjoyed the plot of this season so much. The mystery kept the audience on their toes and Wednesday’s mannerism really put the show together. Overall, I thought this season was great,” sophomore Blake Axelrad said.
Now, in the new season, the story picks up where it left off. Wednesday is back at Nevermore, but things have changed. The new seasons creatively introduces new students and new threats and presents a bigger mystery that involves the whole school and nearby town.
“Season one was better in my opinion because I liked watching Wednesday’s friendship with Enid form. They both said they were each others best friend this season, but did not show it until the end. Season one was more interesting,” sophomore Jazmin Martinez said.
One big improvement in this season is the strong character development. Wednesday is still her smart, sarcastic self, but shows a significantly greater amount of emotions. The show efectively demonstrates her attempts to strengthen her friendships and deal with some romance, as she does this in her own, unique way. That being said, her relationships with Enid, Xavier and her family feel deeper and more real.
The best part of this was Wednesday’s relationship with her mom. While season one saw Wednesday rejecting her mother’s attempts to strengthen their relationship, season two dives into the complex details of their bond, realistically highlighting their differences and psychic abilities. This season also introduces Wednesday’s grandma, Grandmama, which complicates their relationship even further and adds to the emotion of the show.
“This season interested me more because I enjoyed seeing Wednesday unique personality really develop in her own way. In season one, her relationship with her mom seems to hit a new low and season two slowly builds it back up which I enjoyed watching,” sophomore Sophie Space said.
Overall, season two is interesting and a great watch. It is a unique and original series and the show does an amazing job of capturing Wednesday’s dark and witty humor. The show does not copy other teen dramas, but instead, seems to have its own dark, fun style. Thanks to the mystery, funny moments, and surprises that kept fans interested, season two truly proved to be a strong and fun season.
“Jenna Ortega is a fabulous actor and this season truly showed me how talented she is. I enjoy this kind of grungy, horror show and Wednesday Addams is truly the perfect watch,” sophomore Noah Colleu said.
