[Video] FSPA 2013 Preview: Gables Live! 1st Place Edit to the Beat

The Communication Arts, Film, & Digital Media Academy (caf&dm) traveled to Orlando, FL on Thursday, April 25- Saturday, April 27, 2013 to learn and compete in the Florida Scholastic Press Association’s (FSPA) Spring Conference.  Forty-two students from highlights (newspaper), Cavaleon (yearbook), Catharsis (literary magazine), CavsConnect (online), and Gables Live! (broadcast) shared their passion for journalism with over 1,000 other Fla. students in the largest conference FSPA has seen in over a decade.

A full story on all of the awards and accolades achieved at the state convention will be coming shortly, but one of the most exciting moments for CGHS was when the closing award ceremony was opened by the 1st Place Edit to the Beat entry by our own Gables Live! A team contest, Edit to the Beat requires the TV students to capture footage from the first day of FSPA and edit the footage to a song they are given. They must showcase the theme of the convention, in this case ex[press]ion, as well as what took place throughout the day.

Congratulations to the entire Gables Live! team that traveled to FSPA: Raul Flores, Saira Membreno, Samuel Tapia, Andrea Salas, Diana Galiano, Daniela Karaki-Suarez, and Marvin Reyes.

About the Contributor
Raul Flores
Raul Flores, Raul Flores, Director of Gables Live!
Raul Alejandro Flores was born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, but shortly after he moved in with his mom & stepdad to Miami, FL at the age of 15. Attending a new school was a bit harsh and adventurous for him, but he quickly found his passion and purpose in God. While in his church, he started to serve in the TV ministry, and quickly learned all the basics of live production TV. Regardless of his quick learning and experience, his passion and hunger to learn outgrew his weekly service, and he started his knowledge journey by himself. Google, Youtube and a few programs were his teachers and counselors, and soon God opened doors for him to gain more experience through people and organizations such as Univision, Radio Zoe and CC Media Productions were he had some great opportunities to learn and showcase his abilities.  His desire to prepare people and impart what he had learned led him to “Gables Live!”  the daily broadcast and TV production of Coral Gables Senior High, where he now serves as the director and producer of the many videos and movies that are made. There are a couple of things that drag this young guy’s heart and that is to see people do what he does, and God, and when he is not between these two, he finds himself with his family, friends, (or at McDonalds eating) and thinking on the next step to make history.
