This school year, Gables is welcoming the newest addition to the foreign language staff. Get to know Mme. Rouit, who is looking forward to a successful year of teaching French at Gables.

Q: What is your name and what do you teach here at Gables?

A: My name is Madame Rouit and I teach French; I teach French [Advanced Placement] and French [International Baccalaureate].

Q: Where did you work before coming to Gables?

A: I came from Felix Varela High School where I was there for 16 years.

Q: Where are you from?

A: I’m from France, from a city called Aix-en-Provence, which is the sister city of Coral Gables.

Q: What is your favorite part of French culture?

A: My favorite part of French culture is to be able to share it with my students.

Q: Do you visit France often?

A: I visit France every summer. I go and visit my family, my whole family is over there, and it’s always a pleasure.

Q: Why did you decide to become a teacher?

A: I don’t really know why I decided to become a teacher, and when I started teaching I thought, “Why didn’t I do that earlier?”

Q: What do you love most about teaching French?

A: What I love most about teaching in general, not just French, but teaching, is all my student’s different personalities.

Q: You’re known around campus for having pink walls, what was your inspiration?

A: My inspiration for the pink walls were my Paris posters that I have around the classroom, and I like bright colors, and it keeps everybody energized.

Q: Do you have any hobbies or activities outside of the classroom?

A: Many, but one of my favorite ones is photography.
