Marking the transition from childhood to adulthood, Prom celebrates the milestones of the seniors and their upcoming graduation. Dressed up in dresses and tuxedos, Cavaliers enjoyed a night of festivities in their classy and elegant attire on April 4. Seniors Victoria Sosa and Owen Anders were placed in the limelight, as they danced the night away as Prom Queen and King.
“I was so so excited for Sosa and Owen. They have been together since freshman year, and I know they’ve been looking forward to prom for a while, so I definitely think it was well-deserved,” senior Kayleigh Mellgren.
To run for Prom Queen and King, Sosa and Anders ensured they remained under 10 absences and 20 tardies in total, while maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher. During Prom, students voted anonymously from the list of contestants running for court who they believed were deserving of the titles. As Prom Court votes were casted, Sosa and Anders waited in anticipation and were overjoyed to be crowned Prom Queen and King.
To raise votes for their campaign, Sosa took a heartwarming approach. By creating an Instagram reel featuring herself and several friends, she promoted votes for both her and Anders for court. Sharing that they had been dating since freshman year, she highlighted their close relationship to pull at viewers’ heartstrings. In hopes of gaining support and securing votes from many students across the school, the reel was shared by the people around her.
“Watching Victoria being crowned prom queen was unforgettable. Throughout our friendship, she has shown incredible kindness, always supporting those around her. I felt so proud to see her recognized for her character and compassion and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving,” senior Jayleen Hernandez said.
Both Sosa and Anders have made an indelible impact at Coral Gables Senior High. Sosa has left a lasting impression on the dance team, while Anders has been involved in various clubs and sports. Their positive influence on campus helped secure much support and popularity from other students, contributing to a touching experience during their court elections.
The room filled with applause and excitement as chants of names echoed from the student body across the venue. As the results were announced on prom night, Ms. Figueroa and Mr. Balboa took to stage and crowned Anders and Sosa as Prom King and Queen. The student body erupted with cheers, and the feeling of happiness was shared by everyone, celebrating their well-deserved victory.
“The song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran was a ‘perfect’ choice because, not only was it emotional, but it was also funny that it was written by Ed Sheeran considering Owen is ginger. Little details like this make the memory not only funny but also unforgettable,” senior Victoria Sosa said.
After being crowned, they shared a slow dance together on stage as people swayed their flashlights from side to side, creating a serene atmosphere. The melodies of the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran played in the background, which was a suitable song for the couple. Its lyrics about love and finding someone special made it the ideal song for the newly crowned Prom King and Queen.

The Prom was a memorable event for all students who attended, especially for Prom King and Queen Anders and Sosa. Their significant win will sweeten the memories of high school, marking this occasion unforgettable. The titles of 2025 Prom King and Queen will always hold a special place in the hearts of Cavaliers.
