Class of 2014 alumnus Cole Scanlon was recently announced a spot on Forbes’s 30 under 30 Education 2017 list. In an effort to ease the process of applying to college for high school students, Scanlon, along with a colleague, created a free PDF college guide. The guide is available for download at Scanlon’s recent accomplishment is one of the many reasons he is revered as an exemplary Cavalier.

“I think [Scanlon’s project] is a great idea. Most students don’t have the money to afford a separate college advisor and instead of bothering Mrs. Stack every five seconds, this guide is available at any time. Gables grads are doing big things,” senior Sabryna Gonzalez said.

The Fair Opportunity Project was founded by Scanlon and Luke Heine, both Harvard students, and aims to give low-income high school students access to the best advice for applying to college. The PDF is a compilation of advice from students and staff from top universities and provides information on interviews, essays, studying for standardized tests, and much more. Scanlon has previously interned for the World Bank and is currently in the country of Senegal.

“Although I’m a sophomore, I’m grateful this guide now exists. I know I’ll be referring to it once I go through the college applications process,” sophomore Karina Wu said.

Anyone can simply download a copy of the guide all for free. Rising juniors and seniors at Gables will surely reap the benefits of Scanlon’s innovation.
