From a book to the big screen, Tim Burton took the plunge and brought Ransom Riggs’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children to life. Jake Portman (Asa Butterfield) is a boy who isn’t really close to anyone, except for his grandfather. Tragedy strikes one night, and Jake is left feeling more alone and lost than ever. Jack goes on a journey along with his father to Wales in order to find out if there was any truth to the fairytales he was told by his grandfather as a child.

When it comes to films that are based on the recreation of a book there is always one question that is asked: did the movie do the book justice? In this case, Burton did a decent job with the adaption. If you read the book before watching the movie, you would have realized that each actor/actress portrayed their character extremely well. If there was one person that really stood out during the film that would be Miss Peregrine who was portrayed by Eva Green. Burton really knocked it out of the park when he cast Green as Miss Peregrine. Throughout the film, Green kept Miss Peregrine’s strange but yet charming peculiarity in action. You can tell Burton really took his time casting because each person really brought something unique to the movie and their character.

“I haven’t seen the movie yet but I am totally excited to see it because I absolutely enjoyed the books. The fact that I finally get to see the peculiar children in action,” sophomore Dayanna Ruiz said.

What made this film so strangely unique were its visuals. Riggs’s elaborate imagery was extremely helpful for readers to create a strong,unified sensory impression of Jack’s world, however, what Burton and the crew created was breathtaking. From the children’s home to Wales, everything was picture-perfect.

Throughout the movie, I felt like something was missing. I think it was the fact that the second half of the movie for me was way too fast paced and it didn’t capture the whole purpose. Except for that, it was a good movie that I wouldn’t mind watching again.

Like many recreations of books coming to live screens, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, did a solid job at meeting the viewers’ expectations. Tim Burton, the director, did a phenomenal job with the cast. Viewers can tell that each person took the time to carefully portray their characters. The film did a remarkable job with the visuals which brought the book to life. If you are a fan of the book series, then you would definitely enjoy seeing Burton’s adaption.
