In the age of social media, we have seen content creators from all platforms rise to stardom overnight more times than we can count. Staying in the limelight, however, can be a difficult task for influencers trying to turn their initial “15-minutes of fame” into a lifelong career. With the skyrocketing popularity of TikTok came the rise of Charli D’Amelio and Dixie D’Amelio, viral TikTok influencers that are now creating The D’Amelio Show to display aspects of their lives that are not seen normally by their followers.

The series highlights the personal struggles of Charli and Dixie D’Amelio after becoming famous, presenting a side of this famous family to the public that is not often showcased on social media. The D’Amelio sisters have been under a microscope since the beginning of their careers. The D’Amelio show gives the audience a closer look into their real lives and the real problems this fame has caused them.

TikTok personality and musician Dixie D’Amelio is no stranger to hate, facing ridicule for her voice, her music and most notably how critics claim she would be nothing without her sister. On social media, Dixie has poked fun at all of these comments, but it is shown on the first episode of The D’Amelio show how much these comments truly affect her. This moment is captivating, filled with raw emotion and tears, displaying a vulnerable moment in Dixie’s life.

“I really didn’t have any strong opinions about the D’Amelio’s or anything, after watching the show I take them more seriously. I think the show does a good job of undoing the narrative that Charli and Dixie are just dumb TikTokers,” sophomore Anabelle Gonzalez said.

Alongside their success, on TikTok, the D’Amelio sisters have a clothing line with the brand Hollister that was in development when the show was filmed. Behind the scenes, meetings are shown in the series and give the audience a look into what it took to make the collaboration possible.

In these scenes, Charli expresses her love for the business side of her job and how much she enjoys it. Moments like this are what make the show so interesting to watch; much of what is shown leaves viewers surprised and more informed on the true passions of the D’Amelio family.

The series also highlights the struggles Charli faces with getting back into her lifelong passion of dance and missing her life as a normal teenager.

“It really stuck out to me when Charli was talking about missing her life back home. I think people are quick to assume that influencers like them have no problems but seeing their personal struggles was really cool. I thought the show was just gonna be about TikTok drama,” sophomore Gabriella Reguera said.

The D’Amelio Show unexpectedly shocked viewers with a serious look into the lives of the D’Amelio Family. Although filled with lighthearted moments including cameos from friends, the series had an earnest tone and demonstrated the reality of this family’s life. It is a quick watch and definitely worth it.

“I think the show was really entertaining to watch. In the end, it just teaches the viewers that everyone is human,” sophomore Angie Veliz said.
