With Homecoming right around the corner, girls are getting a head start on what they are going to wear. As we all know, Prom is about long elegant dresses, but Homecoming gives everyone a chance to let out their sequined, satin, knee-length frocks and effortlessly dance the night away.

• Length and Cut-

When picking out a homecoming dress, it should fall just above the knee, not too short or too long. Homecoming dresses tend to be tighter, sleeker cuts that allow for enjoyable dancing and free movement. Straps or some form of support are strongly recommended. If the dress is strapless, be sure that it fits perfectly. While the dress’s length and cut should be fun, remember that you won’t want to be worrying too much about your dress when you’re on the dance floor.

“It’s really difficult to pick out a dress for homecoming. It all depends on how comfortable you feel and in the right cut. I recommend a short cut and something that doesn’t flail too much. Other than that, I’m really excited to attend,” sophomore Veronica Silva said.

• Fabric, Color, and Pattern-

Bright colors or tie-dye patterns aren’t the right styles for a homecoming dress. Dark colors, whites, purples, metallic tones or blacks are good shades for a nice, solid look. For patterns, a dark elegant brocade can be stunning with a short cut. When it comes to fabrics, it would be nice to have a silky- or glossy-looking feel to it.

• Accessories- 

Once you’ve picked out the perfect dress, it’s important to have the right accessories. When picking out jewelry, you can never go wrong with a casual, silver-colored necklace and any shimmering bracelet that will add some sparkle. When selecting the right shoes, keep comfort in mind! At many school dances, heels are taken off due to discomfort. To solve this problem, you can wear black, white, or nude flats.

• Hair and Makeup-

Hairstyles for that special night can range anywhere from luscious curls to a sophisticated updo. Effortless ponytails or free flowing waves can work with all types of dresses. Makeup should be fun, but also light and definitely durable. A solid foundation, shimmering eye shadow, light eyeliner, mascara and some lip gloss should do the trick.

“The most important part about homecoming would definitely be the hair and accessories. No matter what dress you have, you should always top it off with the most perfect hairstyle. I would have my hair in a pony tail just so it doesn’t get in the way of my dancing and in my face,” sophomore Abigail Wagner said.

Homecoming only comes around once a year and is available to students of all grade levels. Now is the time to gather your dress and prepare to dance the night away. Tickets are only $45 in the Student Activities room. Stop by Sept. 17, 18 or 19 during lunch to buy  yours!
