The girls tennis team are well on their way into the season, and they are expecting great things.

“I think this year we have a very strong girls team and we definitely have a chance of going to states,” sophomore Sofia Quevedo said.

Last year, the boys were able to make it all the way to states and managed to win, while the girls made it to districts. In the 2014 season, alumni Danny Spatz and Mirko Redosevic led the boys to states and had won. This year, with new athletes joining and last year’s players, the team believes that they have a strong chance to go far.

“I think we actually do have a stronger team than last year. We have a few new players and the team has gotten a lot better as a whole. We won our first match 7-0, and from what I know about the other teams, we have a strong chance of going past districts and hopefully past regionals to states, although that’s going to be a challenge,” senior Carla Steighorst said.

Already well on their way in their season, the boys and girls tennis teams have been putting hours into practice. The team practices most days after school at the Biltmore, which is also where they have many of their games.

“I think our team is great. Playing with these girls, you get to know one another off and on the court. Honestly, there’s no saying if we will make it past districts, but I have faith in my team,” junior Raphaela Game said.

This year, the team has its goals set high. As the season goes on, we will see how the team progresses and how it moves on. Make sure to catch them practicing and playing their games at the Biltmore.
