The reopening of a hotel in the Republic of Mali occurred on Monday, Dec. 14. Mali’s president and prime minister were present in the opening of the Radisson Blu, and they declared that it will officially continue running on Tuesday, Dec.15.

“I find it extremely endearing that the people of Mali are facing the terrorists by reopening the hotel and not giving into the fear that [the jihadists] are trying to implement,'” freshman Dominique Babin said.

Since the fatal attack, security has increased at Radisson’s east and west entrances. New gates now guard the building. Additionally, there are cohorts of armed guards patrolling the perimeter and more comprehensive vehicle searches. In spite of the hotel’s reopening, staff are still mourning the employees that were murdered and consider the reopening a victory of life against jihadism.

“The attack against the people in the people in Mali is definitely heartbreaking and alarming to people all around the world. The reopening of this hotel is an audacious way of telling these attackers that they have no control over the people of Mali,” freshman Nicole Verdesoto said.

The Radisson Blu is planning to move forward from this awful act and hopes to be able to serve the people of Mali. With bookings for upcoming months, the hotel feels prepared to keep the Radisson Blu up and running. However, the victims will not be forgotten, and to keep their memories alive, there are pictures of the three staff members killed during the assault displayed in the reception room.
