After a relaxing two-week break filled with lots of food and little work, either mental or physical, getting used to a school schedule can be rather difficult. While everyone knows how great holiday meals are, not everyone is able to shed the extra pounds they gain over the holiday season. Here are a few fun and easy ways to be active without it feeling like a workout.

  •  Bike ride with friends: strap on your helmet and hit the road. An hour of biking can burn anywhere from 300-600 calories, and it’s so fun you won’t even notice you’re sweating! Bike veterans will recommend the route along the Key Biscayne Bridge, through Virginia Key, and past Crandon Park into the city of Key Biscayne.
  • Yoga: Both a mental and physical workout, yoga increases flexibility and improves respiration, energy and vitality. The ‘Sun Salutation A’ will allow you to loosen your muscles and mind as you flow from a standing mountain pose, to a forward fold, then high to low plank, and finally upward to downward dog.
  • Speed walking: Grab a friend and take a hike! Speed walking around your neighborhood golf course or even through your community will easily get your blood pumping and your heart rate up. Don’t forget to stay hydrated though, as Miami’s heat can be killer, especially while exercising.
